Apple introduced the latest version of its iOS operating system in June 2020 during its WWDC keynote(Virtual developer conference). Apple says iOS 14 will be the biggest update which is set to be released soon and still in Beta testing which is both available to developers and the public. The update will bring a variety of new changes and features which will be noticeable and liked by many iOS users.

iOS 14 New Features

New Home screen with App Library

iOS 14 will bring a new app library space at the end of your home screen pages that will automatically organize your apps into one simple and easy to navigate view. All your apps on your iPhone will also be automatically sorted into categories such as Social, Productivity, and Entertainment. Categories intelligently reorder based on app use.

It will also come with a suggestion feature that will show suggested apps you are looking for based on usages such as time, location, or activity. You can also use the search bar at the top of the App Library to quickly find the app you’re looking for. When you tap Search, apps will be displayed alphabetically, making them easy to scroll through and find.

Widgets

iOS 14 widgets have been redesigned to be more beautiful and data-rich, so they can provide even more utility throughout your day and can be placed anywhere at the Home screen for information at glance. Widgets will also come in different sizes to enable you to pick your preferred size. Apps will move out of the way automatically to make room for the widgets. You access these widgets through the “Widget Gallery”.

This latest software update will provide support of picture in picture that will allow you to continue watching a video or taking a FaceTime call while you use another app. This feature is perfect for having a video call with a friend while you find a time to meet or catching up on a TV show while checking your email. Siri also has a new interface that doesn’t overtake your entire screen.

App Clips

An App Clip is a small part of an app that’s discoverable at the moment you need it and is focused on a specific task. This new feature allows easy access to apps quickly without downloading the full versions from the app store.

App Clips also works with the existing Sign In with Apple feature to spare you from having to create login information, and payment tasks can be handled via Apple Pay.

New messages and conversation features

The messaging app in the iPhone will get a variety of updates, including the ability to pin up to 9 conversations at the top.

Group chats are also getting an update with the ability to mention someone in the chats as well as inline replies. You will also be able to set an image/photo for your group conversations.

Apple is also adding new Memoji accessories with a lot of customizations options to make them more expressive.

Privacy and Security features

Apple’s iOS 14 includes some privacy features designed to give you more transparency and control over your data. For instance, all apps are now required to obtain user permission before tracking users activities online, and users can disable tracking between different applications. This a move that Facebook is not happy with it cause it can lead to loss of ad revenue.

Apple promises several security upgrades, with one of the more interesting features based in Safari. According to Apple, Safari monitors saved passwords with an eye toward any that may have been involved in a data breach. Specifically, Safari is using cryptographic techniques to check derivations of stored passwords against a list of compromised passwords — Apple promises that this is done securely, without revealing your password info.

Other features coming with iOS 14 include:

  • Third-party Default apps
  • New Maps features
  • New Safari features
  • Health apps
  • Car Key and Car Play
  • Airpods feature additions
  • Camera improvements

Apple iOS 14 Release Date

Based on past releases, iOS 14 will be officially be released in the fall of 2020, likely in September alongside new iPhones, if new iPhones come in September in 2020. As reported by MacRumors.

There is no official release date but we hope it will be released this month.
