  1. Freelance writing

Freelance writing is one of the best online jobs that a majority of people ignore yet has an ability to make you good money. All that is needed is some writing skills whether creative, academic and such like. Writing as a profession is one that has been embraced by many people who desire flexibility with their work schedules and that’s because all that is required is a laptop and an internet connection. This job is so reliable and can be done anywhere even at home. It is so easy and the good thing about this is that there are no degrees required and one can also do it either with little or no experience at all.

Some of the platforms you can use to get jobs by freelance writing are Upwork, iWriter, Fiverr, Zerys and WriterBay among others. All you need to do is create an account and set up your profile then you are good to go. Some of these sites will ask you to send a sample article before approving your account.

  1. Blogging

This one requires you to create your own website blog. You can choose a topic you are passionate about, for example, personal finance, sports, education, technology, news and many more niches. Once you pick your favourite niche, choose a blogging platform.

WordPress, blogger and tumbrl offer free blog-publishing services you can try. Once your blog is ready, create quality content that will attract readers to the blog. As much as we have free blog publishing platforms, I recommend that you go with a self-hosted platform i.e buy your own domain name and hosting. You can try this by buying hosting from Hostpinnacle or Truehost company, they have good deals for starter websites and your blog website will be ready and live soon after buying hosting and domain from them. Having a self-hosted blog will enable you maximize your blog’s monetization as free platforms have limitations.

The more traffic you have the better your earnings will be. This is because you earn when people click on the adverts on your site. Cost per click advertisements enable you to make money each time a reader on your blog clicks on the ad.

You can also monetize your blog by affiliate marketing of products you use or have tested, selling services/goods in your blog, posting sponsored posts and many more. I will talk all about this in the next posts, sign up to our newsletter so that you can be notified.

  1. Transcription

Transcription involves writing down what one person speaks, as an online job, your work will be to listen to audio and videos and write down the conversations.

You need to have excellent listening skills and be fast to typing and able to understand the accents of the speakers.

There are plenty of sites that allow Kenyans to sign up and start working online. They include Transcribe Me, Rev, Elance, Casting Words, Odesk, Scribie among others.

  1. Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is one of the top online marketing jobs today.  If you have established your personal brand on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media network, you can get these jobs easily.

Once you have a big following, a company may approach you directly or through a third party so you can help them promote their products and services to your followers on social media.

The first step is to open an account in those platforms, like with blogs, ensure you create interesting content that can attract a lot of views. You will also need to link your account to advertising services like Google Adsense program. Sometimes brands can also approach you directly so that you can help them promote their products and services and you earn good money from that.
