Safaricom Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Free Data, Calls and more for loyal customers

Kenya largest Teleco company, Safaricom is celebrating 20 years since its inception on October 23, 2000, and has rolled out some goodies for its customers as part of the celebrations to mark its 20th Anniversary.

In the virtual event held on Tuesday, October 27th, the Teleco company revealed a line-up of several rewards for all customers as they celebrate the 20th Anniversary.

“As part of the celebrations, all Safaricom customers will enjoy one free call of up to 20 minutes within the next 30 days. To ensure all customers benefit, each customer will receive a notification a day before to alert them of their free call. Customers who have been on the Safaricom network for 20 years, as well as customers turning 20 this year, will also receive a free 20GB data bundle valid for 7 days,” a statement from the company notes.

Another promotion, dubbed Tunikiwa 20@20, will see all Safaricom subscribers able to buy 20 minutes call time and 20 megabytes of data for just Kshs 20. Additionally, “Customers purchasing personalized Tunukiwa voice offers will receive free 20 minutes to call across all networks.”

“The focus is on Safaricom appreciating and celebrating its consumers who are family for the last 20 years. The 20@20 offer is available to everyone on the network at 20kshs, making it accessible to all regardless of their pocket-size,” the statement from the company notes…

Safaricom also noted plans towards supporting small businesses by developing products and frameworks that would benefit business and customers. Marking the anniversary, the company has launched a new product, Pochi la Biashara, which will see small business owners separate business funds from their personal wallets and is designed for small business owners who have not yet acquired Lipa na MPESA till or Paybill number. The product has increased security since customers can pay for services without revealing their phone numbers and names.

Pochi la Biashara service will be available on the aggregated MPESA services USSD the Teleco company recently launched by dialling *344#. Besides, the company says it will give users more control by offering a self-reversal service.

Lastly, the company plans to avail the 4G network across the entire country by December 2020 and aims to serve more than 1 million businesses and homes with its fibre product by 2025.
